Chicken Little

  • Experience a fantastic world of breathtaking action in Disney's hilarious new movie CHICKEN LITTLE. It's "the perfect family film," raves Scott Mantz of Access Hollywood. When the sky really is falling and sanity has flown the coop, who will rise to save the day? Together with his hysterical band of misfit friends, Chicken Little must hatch a plan to save the planet from alien invasion and
2005 hit animated feature stars the voices of Zach Braff, Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall. Special bonus features include deleted scenes, a making-of, trivia game, music video, karaoke sing-along, Barenaked Ladies music video.A classic fable gets fused with War of the Worlds in Disney's Chicken Little. In the small town of Oakey Oaks, young Chicken Little (voiced by Zach Braff, Garden State) struggles to live down the embarrassment of having once thought the sky was falling. But when he ! gets struck again by a hexagonal, sky-camouflaged, hi-tech doohickey, he and his friends Ugly Duckling (Joan Cusack, School of Rock), Runt of the Litter (Steve Zahn, Sahara), and Fish Out of Water discover that aliens are preparing to invade Earth--but since no one believed Chicken Little the first time, why would they believe him now? Though kids will enjoy the bright whizz-bang action sequences of Chicken Little, discerning parents will find the movie tedious. Technically, it has the computer animation quality of Pixar--but with none of their intelligence, heart, or simple storytelling skill. The basic idea of connecting the fable to aliens is amusing, but the script routinely bogs down in clumsy father-son issues that seem like material edited out of Finding Nemo. The jokes rarely have anything to do with the characters, but are mostly pop-culture references that are sadly out of date. The action sequences were obviously created with the inevi! table video game in mind, for which the movie is little more t! han an a dvertisement. Chicken Little falls flat. --Bret Fetzer

She can have any man or woman she wants. Sex, money, glamour, fame - it's all within her reach. She's a Goddess. She's A Star. Her name Is Gia. There's a reason why Cindy Crawford was dubbed "Baby Gia" when she first hit the modeling scene. Indeed, Crawford, now the world's best-known supermodel, greatly resembled model Gia Carangi, who went from high school to the cover of British Vogue in less than two years. Carangi appeared on many more covers of Vogue (French, British, Italian, and American) and Cosmopolitan before dying of complications from AIDs (she was an IV heroin user) in 1986. Now most people recognize Carangi's name from this powerful HBO film that stars Golden Globe-winner Angelina Jolie, who comes by her talent honestly. Jolie is the daughter of veteran actor Jon Voight,! and her own training as a model serves her well--she has the moves. Throughout, she's heartbreaking--as no doubt the real Carangi was--effective, and stunning.

With good source material (Stephen Fried's A Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia), Jolie's stunning performance, and strong directing by Michael Cristofer, the movie goes beyond the merely sensational. The script was cowritten by Cristofer and novelist Jay McInerney, whose Bright Lights, Big City covers similar territory. As a cautionary tale, Gia works. But to watch Jolie in her character's tragic self-destruction is utterly compelling. --N.F. Mendoza

Matters appear on the upswing, however, when they are found and brought to Olympus, an urban utopia and centerpiece for the reconstruction of civilization. Duenan and Bri join the Olympus' police, a force that seems hardly necessary in such a paradise. But, like in most pretty pictures, perfection is an illusion, and Olympus' peaceful facade hides a dark secret, a violent struggle between human and cyborg that could once again plunge the world into war... and genocide.Earth's last city, Olympus, rose from the ashes of a global war on the backs of Bioroids, artificial clones who make up half the city's population. Under the strict guidance of a supercomputer, humanity's last survivors enjoy an idyllic peace, but only on the surface Human terrorists within the military seek a return to power and! clash with the government's ESWAT forces lead by the legendary soldier, Deunan Knute, and her boyfriend who is 75% machine. When it was relea! sed in 1988, the original Appleseed felt like a summary! of anim e's past, while Akira pointed the way to the future. The second Appleseed (2004), also directed by Aramaki, was an unimpressive motion-capture CG feature that borrowed elements from other sci-fi anime. In this latest incarnation, Deunan, Briareos, and Tereus of the E.S.W.A.T. team are charged with preserving the peace of the city-state of Olympus, a hi-tech paradise on a largely ruined Earth. Screenwriters Kiyoto Takeuchi and Todd W. Russell have given the story a contemporary twist, adding attacks by "cyborg terrorists" and an effort by the ruler of Olympus to control a world-wide satellite surveillance system. When cyborgs and human launch coordinated attacks on the government headquarters in Olympus, Deunan, Briareos, and Tereus swing into action against a mysterious enemy. The plot has little in common with the earlier films: the Appleseed technology that was at the core of the story isn't even mentioned. The look, tone, and characters in Ex Machina ! recall Shirow's Ghost in the Shell, rather than the original Appleseed. Not surprisingly, the elaborately choreographed fight scenes reflect Woo's signature style, with slo-mo martial-arts combat, close-ups of falling shells, dynamic camerawork, and all-out gun battles. But the weightless movements of the motion-capture characters and the limited rendering of the skin textures gives Appleseed Ex Machina the feel of an extremely elaborate computer game. Despite the limits of the mo-cap technology, Appleseed Ex Machina is a fast-past, take-no-prisoners cinematic adventure that will delight action-movie fans as well as anime lovers. Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, Carrie "catches the mind, shakes it and refuses to let it go" (Time)! Starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie (in OscarÂ(r)-nominated* performances), John Travolta and Amy Irving, this ultimate revenge fantasy is "absolutely spellbinding" (Roger Ebert), "outrageously witty" (Los Angeles Times) and one of the all-time great horror classics! At the center of the terror is Carrie (Spacek), a tortured high-school misfit with no confidence, no friends...and no idea about the extent of her secret powers of telekinesis. But when her psychotic mother and sadistic classmates finally go too far, the once-shy teen becomes an unrestrained, vengeance-seeking powerhouse! who, with the help of her 'special gift,' causes all hell to break loose in a famed cinematic frenzy of blood, fire and brimstone! *1976: Spacek, Actress; Laurie, Supporting ActressA modern classic, Carrie introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction -- Stephen King. The story of misunderstood high school girl Carrie White, her extraordinary telekinetic powers, and her violent rampage of revenge, remains one of the most barrier-breaking and shocking novels of all time.

Make a date with terror and live the nightmare that is...CarrieWhy read Carrie? Stephen King himself has said that he finds his early work "raw," and Brian De Palma's movie was so successful that we feel like we have read the novel even if we never have. The simple answer is that this is a very scary story, one that works as well--if not better--on the page as on the screen. Carrie White, menaced by bullies at school and her religious nut of a mother at home, gradua! lly discovers that she has telekinetic powers, powers that wil! l eventu ally be turned on her tormentors. King has a way of getting under the skin of his readers by creating an utterly believable world that throbs with menace before finally exploding. He builds the tension in this early work by piecing together extracts from newspaper reports, journals, and scientific papers, as well as more traditional first- and third-person narrative in order to reveal what lurks beneath the surface of Chamberlain, Maine.

News item from the Westover (ME) weekly Enterprise, August 19, 1966: "Rain of Stones Reported: It was reliably reported by several persons that a rain of stones fell from a clear blue sky on Carlin Street in the town of Chamberlain on August 17th."

Although the supernatural pyrotechnics are handled with King's customary aplomb, it is the carefully drawn portrait of the little horrors of small towns, high schools, and adolescent sexuality that give this novel its power, and assures its place in ! the King canon. --Simon Leake

As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch's own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber! Valetta), he's trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip colu! mnist (E va Mendes) with whom he's fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore's Ever After so effortlessly engaging. As romantic comedies go, Hitch doesn't offer any big surprises, but as a date movie it gets the job done with amiable ease and style. --Jeff Shannon

From director Michael Radford (THE MERCHANT OF VENICE IL POSTINO) comes FLAWLESS a clever diamond-heist thriller set in swinging 1960s London. Demi Moore plays Laura Quinn a bright driven and beautiful executive at the London Diamond Corporation who finds herself frustrated by a glass ceiling after years of faithful employment as man after man is promoted ahead of her despite her greater experience. Michael Caine is Hobbs the nighttime janitor at London Diamond who is virtually invisible to the executives that work there but over the years has amassed a startling amount of knowledge about how the company runs. Hobbs has his own bone to pick with London Diamond. Observing Laura s frustration he convinces her to help him execute an ingenious plan to steal a hefty sum in diamonds. But unbeknownst to Laura Hobbs plans go even farther than he s! let on and together they set in motion a thrilling heist of d! izzying proportions the likes of which London has never seen.System Requirements:Running Time: 109 mintuesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA/PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA Rating: PG-13 UPC: 876964001038 Manufacturer No: 10103It would be overpraise to propose that Flawless reviews itself with its title, but... how about "supremely decorous"? It is, at any rate, a film that merits a grateful salute from audiences weary of being beaten about the head and shoulders in pursuit of an engrossing caper movie. A plot to make off with a fortune in gems from England's premier diamond company unfolds without explosions, vrooming vehicles, or rapid-fire shootouts. It's like a feature-length variation on those sly, soft-spoken Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes of the '50s, with the patient accumulation of mood, detail and character leading to wry twists and satisfying revelations. We are in 1960 and a London not yet disposed to swing. Laura Quinn (Demi Moore), the lone female officer of Lond! on Diamond Corporation, is smarter and more capable than her male colleagues, but that doesn't deter the company from promoting them over her while profiting from her talents. This has long since gotten old, so when Mr. Hobbs (Michael Caine), the mild-mannered night janitor, enlists her in a scheme to fill his thermos with two million pounds' worth of diamonds from the vault, she listens. Suffice it to say that the vault is penetrated according to plan--and then the real tension sets in. Things are not what they seem, even to those supposedly in the know (us, for instance), and distrust springs up between the conspirators as they find themselves under close scrutiny by a steely investigator (Lambert Wilson).

All this is intelligently scripted by Edward A. Anderson (a maiden effort) and directed by Michael Radford with a crisp, unostentatious eye; the cold interiors of the Lon Di headquarters, generically oppressive on first sight, take on a nuanced familiarity as the pl! ace where, for the most part, Laura Quinn spends her life. Dem! i Moore- -scarlet lips in a black-and-grey world--admirably catches Laura's not-quite-smothered ambition and frustration without breaking her cover, as it were. Michael Caine couldn't be better as Hobbs, an invisible man in plain sight (how many viewers fail to notice his first appearance in the film?); he's the master of his trade, but you knew that. There's a framing story, set more or less in the present, which seems to be an obligatory bow to feminism but sets up a tease or two of its own, then adds yet another twist to the proceedings. --Richard T. Jameson

Starring Craig Ferguson ("The Drew Carey Show"), Ian Hart (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), Jane Horrocks ("Absolutely Fabulous"), Adrian Lester, Catherine McCormack,Jimi Mistry, David Morrissey and Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Born Romantic will take you for a dizzying spin through three quirky courtshipsand leave you "smiling and believing that love really can conquer all" (Good Housekeeping)! A certified lounge lotharioseeks to heat things up with an art historian who's cooled on the idea of love. A failed musician wants to strum the right chord with the bride he jilted years earlier. And a dyslexic mugger with a chloroform-doused cloth finds ! himself knocked out by a pretty grave attendant. They've got their workcut out for them. And yet, at a local club pulsating with the hot sounds of salsa music, any one ofthese three could find the answer to his romantic quandary if they can only find the rhythm in time.A cheeky comedy about love's labor being well beyond lost, Born Romantic stutters out of the gate and never quite recovers. Perhaps it's the gaggle of local quips, jokes based on British television personalities, for instance, or the cameo-like nature of its ever-revolving cast, but director David Kane can't seem to sit still long enough to artfully set up his punch lines--anathema to a feature-length comedy. Set mostly in a London salsa club, the film trails behind a series of lonely thirtysomething singles as they search out one-night stands in the hopes of stumbling upon something more meaningful, namely love. As they shuttle to and fro in late-night minicabs, we're afforded insight into their short! comings, past disappointments, shagging abilities, and ostensi! ble char ms, the cab serving as both confession booth and makeshift bedroom. Featuring a cast of recognizably talented faces, including Jimi Mistry (East Is East) and Olivia Williams (Rushmore), Born Romantic unfortunately never manages to shake its initial impression of being an inflated sitcom better pared down for television. --Fionn MeadeTrack listing 1. "You will do anything I ask," I whispered. The words hung in the air, a mantra spoken to the dark. His eyes lost focus and glowed softly as they narrowed in on my lips.

One year ago, a devastating plague called Strain 7 killed three quarters of the human race. Around the world, power systems failed and supply chains screeched to a halt. The surviving population of the United States has been relocated to the coasts; the heartland is now a wasteland called The Big Empty. But seven teens trying to put their lives back together will learn that the abandoned zone holds danger, secrets, and above all, hope. The secret community of Novo Mundum promised everything seven teens craved when the world they knew crumbled around them. But soon they realize that Novo Mundum is far from perfect. In fact, someone inside has the power to create an even scarier crisis than Strain 7. This! second installment takes readers deeper into the post-apocalyptic America from The Big Empty, following the characters as they uncover a shocking truth about the identity of the traitor
The Great Plains, known for grasslands that stretch to the horizon, is a difficult region to define. Some classify it as the region beginning in the east at the ninety-eighth or one-hundredth meridian. Others identify the eastern boundary with annual precipitation lines, soil composi-tion, or length of the grass. In The Big Empty, leading historian R. Douglas Hurt defines this region using the towns and citiesâ€"Denver, Lin-coln, and Fort Worthâ€"that made a difference in the history of the environment, politics, and agriculture of the Great Plains.

Using the voices of women homesteaders, agrarian socialists, Jewish farmers, Mexican meatpackers, New Dealers, and Native Americans, this book creates a sweeping survey of contested race relations, radical politics, and agricultural ! prosperity and decline during the twentieth century. This narr! ative sh ows that even though Great Plains history is fraught with personal and group tensions, violence, and distress, the twentieth century also brought about compelling social, economic, and political change.

The only book of its kind, this account will be of interest to historians studying the region and to anyone inspired by the story of the men and women who found an opportunity for a better life in the Great Plains.
A vast, barren landscape or a place of subtle natural beauty; the middle of nowhere or the gateway to the cultural and historical riches of the West; many things to many people and a cipher to many moreâ€"the great state of Nebraska is by force of circumstances a place of possibilities. What these possibilities are and what they promise are precisely what the writers of The Big Empty tell us.

Exploring the state from its rural reaches to its urban engines, from its marvelous ecosystems to its myriad historical and cul! tural offerings, these narratives evoke Nebraska in all its facets. Writers as diverse as Ron Hansen, Ted Kooser, Michael Anania, Bob Kerrey, Mary Pipher, Delphine Red Shirt, and William Kloefkorn, among many others, bring a wealth of perspectives and styles to topics such as the Oregon Trail and the Cheyenne Exodus, farming and Internet cafés, politics, weather, and family secrets. The result is a portrait whose broad strokes and rich detail capture the mysterious character of Nebraska.
(20080604)In the third installment of The Big Empty, the teens are on the run after making the shocking discovery that the leader of Novo Mundum, the secret community hidden in the middle of the evacuated Big Empty, is developing a new, even more dangerous virus.
The group faces a challenging trek through the forbidden zone as they search for someone they can trust. In a journey that will test their survival skills like nothing they've experienced so far, the teens' relat! ionships are pushed to the breaking point, with one couple rip! ped apar t for good. An unexpected reunion with someone from their past will prove to be a turning point-but will this familiar face bring salvation or ruin?

Genre: ROCK/POPWhen Mitch McDeere signed on with Bendini, Lambert & Locke of Memphis, he thought that he and his beautiful wife, Abby, were on their way. The firm leased him a BMW, paid off his school loans, arranged a mortgage, and hired the McDeeres a decorator. Mitch should have remembered what his brother Rayâ€"doing fifteen years in a Tennessee jailâ€"already knew: You never get nothing for nothing. Now the FBI has the lowdown on Mitch’s firm and needs his help. Mitch is caught between a rock and a hard place, with no choiceâ€"if he wants to live.Hard ! to believe, but there was a time when the word "lawyer" wasn't synonymous with "criminal," and the idea of a law firm controlled by the Mafia was an outlandish proposition. This intelligent, ensnaring story came out of nowhere--Oxford, Mississippi, where Grisham was a small-town lawyer--and quickly catapulted to the top of the bestseller list, with good reason. Mitch McDeere, the appealing hero, is a poor kid whose only assets are a first-class mind, a Harvard law degree, and a beautiful, loving wife. When a Memphis law firm makes him an offer he really can't refuse, he trades his old Nissan for a new BMW, his cramped apartment for a house in the best part of town, and puts in long hours finding tax shelters for Texans who'd rather pay a lawyer than the IRS. Nothing criminal about that. He'd be set for life, if only associates at the firm didn't have a funny habit of dying, and the FBI wasn't trying to get Mitch to turn his colleagues in. The tempo and pacin! g are brilliant, the thrills keep coming, and the finish has ! a wonder ful ironic flourish. It's not hard to see why Grisham changed the genre permanently with this one, and few of his colleagues in a very crowded field come close to equaling him. --Jane AdamsBig Time Products Firm Grip Blue Nitrile Disposable Glove is latex free. BUCKY LARSON BORN TO BE A STAR 11X17 PROMO MOVIE POSTER

  • 11x17 inches (approximate dimensions as it may vary by a half inch or so).
  • Poster is single sided.
  • This poster is an authentic original movie theater poster issued by the studio.
  • Great size for framing.
  • Makes a great gift!
Bucky [Nick Swarsdon] is a small town grocery bagger, going nowhere in life until he discovers that his conservative parents were once adult film stars! Armed with the belief that he has found his destiny, Bucky packs up and heads out to LA, hoping to follow in his parents footsteps. Also starring Christina Ricci, Don Johnson and Stephen Dorff. It's an odd state of affairs when a movie carries a relatively strong creative pedigree and yet seems to have been brushed aside by the creators as if they knew full well how savagely it would be received by critics and audiences alike. Such is the case with Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star, whi! ch comes from Adam Sandler's production company and has a script cowritten by Sandler, plus a cast of eminently accomplished actors who either didn't know they were slumming it in a stupid, raunchy comedy, or for some reason didn't care. That said, just because it's stupid and raunchy (which it really is), there are germs of redeeming tidbits in Bucky Larson, including the above-mentioned performers along with the shear depth of its stupidity and raunch. Nick Swardson, a longtime Sandler cohort and a very funny presence in his many other movie and TV appearances, plays the title character under a ridiculous bowl haircut and behind a pair of front teeth that seem ripped from the jaws of a giant mutated gopher. He's an Iowa farm boy with hayseeds permanently stuck in those choppers. He knows nothin' from nothin', but vows to make it as a modern-day porn star after a weirdo TV party gives him evidence that his parents were industry icons in the 1970s, thus making him bo! rn to a lineage despite his crazy look, crazy talk, and crazy ! brain. T he other obstacle he faces is a piece of fleshy manhood that's, well, a little on the small side, to put it mildly. In a sequence of events so stupid and raunchy that they do have the necessary ingredients for some measure of possibly drunken hilarity, it turns out that his massive under-equipment and contingent hair trigger gain him exactly the kind of stardom he knew he was born to (his shortcomings make other men feel better about themselves). It seems kind of silly to lament that everyone involved didn't make more of an effort to put Bucky Larson in a higher class since everything about it is so utterly low class. But with a cast that includes Edward Herrmann (Bucky's dad), Stephen Dorff (a rival porn star), Christina Ricci (Bucky's forlorn girlfriend), Don Johnson (a washed-up porn director), and the talented Swardson himself, it feels like the sloppiness of the whole affair is just plain lazy. People will find some genuinely funny moments in Bucky Larson ! if they're able to even start in on it (a scene involving "stolen" food and Bucky's psychotic roommate Kevin Nealon is definitely a laugh riot), but it's likely that this movie will only find life in the home market of a select few who revel in the underdog nature of a particular brand of cinematic stupidity. --Ted FryBucky [Nick Swarsdon] is a small town grocery bagger, going nowhere in life until he discovers that his conservative parents were once adult film stars! AMERICAN OUTLAWS - DVD MovieIf you're looking for a showcase for emerging Hollywood talent, American Outlaws is just the ticket. Its handsome young stars, playing Jesse and Frank James and gang, crack wise as if they were in a contemporary high school locker room. Combining authentic costumes and sets with stunt work befitting a Jackie Chan comedy, accompanied by an "Old West" soundtrack that's anything but old and only marginally Western, the film yields a few enjoyable highlights. Seasoned genre buffs, h! owever, will cringe at the movie's clash of visual qualities, as well as the dialogue, which, while not as heinous as that in Maverick, is on par with Young Guns in terms of non-period flavor. It's not exactly a testament to the enduring potential of the authentic Western that was realized by Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, made barely a decade before.

With all the light-hearted action and character interplay, it's hard to tell if director Les Mayfield (Flubber) is taking the material seriously, but this much is certain: the Jesse James here (played with effortless appeal by Tigerland newcomer Colin Farrell) and his brother Frank (Gabriel Macht) have almost no connection to historical fact. Nor do their fellow farm-raised gang members, the Younger brothers Cole (Scott Caan), Bob (Will McCormack), and Jim (Gregory Smith). (And Jesse's fiancée, played by Ali Larter, looks like she dropped in from a Gap commercial.) The gang's post-Civil ! War battle against a ruthless railroad baron (Harris Yulin) an! d his Pi nkerton henchman (Timothy Dalton) seems arbitrary, irrational (since farmers typically welcomed railroads, not fought them), and riddled with clichés, turning the movie's bloodless shootouts into another opportunity for pretty-boy preening. --Jeff Shannon 4 FILM FAVORITES:WESTERN COLLECTION - DVD Movie

Goldfish Memory is a light-hearted look at the dangers and delights of dating in contemporary Dublin. When Clara sees her boyfriend kissing Isolde, it sets off a chain reaction of romances and heartbreaks until the entire cycle has turned full-circle, with each character trying to solve the pressing question of what is the perfect relationship! Some favor marriage, others a week-at-a-time arrangement. The only thing they can all agree on is that love is the one thing we cannot live without. Falling in love, out of love and making the same mistakes all over again - all of us say we learn from heartbreak, but how many of us really change? And do we really want to? Packaged with CD.This is music from the critically acclaimed motion pictu! re--a romantic comedy about the dangers and delights of dating in contemporary Dublin, written and directed by Liz Gill. Includes new and previously unreleased songs by Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, The Frames, Sinead Lohan, and The Walls.

Day One
I swam around my bowl.

Day Two
I swam around my bowl. Twice.

And so it goes in this tell-all tale from a goldfish.

With his bowl to himself and his simple routine, Goldfish loves his life…until one day…

When assorted intruders including a hyperactive bubbler, a grime-eating snail, a pair of amorous guppies, and a really crabby crab invade his personal space and bowl, Goldfish is put out, to say the least. He wants none of it, preferring his former peace and quiet and solitude.

But time away from his new companions gives him a chance to rethink the pros and cons of a solitary life. And discover what he’s been missing.

In this highly-acclaimed early episode, Mi! ster Rogers sensitively addresses children's understanding of ! death an d the feelings around it. Mister Rogers finds a dead fish in his aquarium, buries it, and talks about his boyhood feelings when his dog died. He helps children know the heavy sadness they might first feel when a pet or a loved one dies doesn't last forever. Divine Intervention

  • Divine Intervention is a comedy about a young, hip preacher, Reverend Gibbs (Wesley Jonathan), who becomes the temporary pastor of a small Baptist church when the stern, long-presiding Reverend Matthews (James Avery) takes an indefinite leave of absence. Coincidentally, Reverend Gibbs stumbles upon a young lady, Divine (Jazsmin Lewis), who sparks his interest while presenting him with a challenge:
For 1500 years, Christians have used “sacred reading” or Lectio Divina as a way to tap into the power and vitality of God's Word.Author and youth pastor Tony Jones explains the four steps of Lectio Divina:

• lectio (reading)
• meditatio (meditation)
• oratio (prayer)
• contemplatio (contemplation)

• Includes 12 lectio divina exercises with passages from The Message Remix

The Romantic Comedy with Spirit. Divine Intervention is a comedy about a yo! ung, hip preacher who becomes the temporary pastor of a small fundamentalist Baptist church in Los Angeles when the long presiding pastor has to take an indefinite leave of absence after suffering a stroke. The handsome and stylish Reverend Robert Gibbs’ flashy and hip style of preaching is immediately embraced by members of the now growing congregation, but is frowned upon by his predecessor, the stern and traditional Reverend Matthews, who does not agree with Gibbs’ trendy tactics or the new commercialized direction in which the church is headed. Coincidentally, Reverend Gibbs eventually stumbles upon a young lady who sparks his interest but presents a challenge to him. The young, lovely, and witty schoolteacher Divine, initially unbeknownst to Reverend Gibbs, is the daughter of Reverend Matthews and she has lost her faith in God due to losing her mother several years back to cancer. Reverend Gibbs tries to win her over while restoring her faith in God and steerin! g clear of her dry humored and overly protective father in the! process . Reverend Matthews’ prospects of returning to the church eventually lessen and Reverend Gibbs moves closer to assuming a permanent role as pastor of the church. That is until he meets even stronger opposition in the jealous and scandalous Deacon Wells, who attempts to uncover some elements of Reverend Gibbs’ past which may prevent him from winning the seat of permanent pastor of the church and more importantly, a place in the heart of Divine. Divine Intervention is a funny, upbeat spiritual journey about romance, religion, and scandal that will succeed with the ever popular and abundant, urban churchgoing audience and general viewers will embrace it for its warmth, humor and controversy.

Henry Poole Is Here (2-disc W/soundtrack Cd)

  • Bonus CD of Henry Poole Is Here soundtrack
Henry Poole is Here tells the funny, poignant and uplifting story of a disillusioned man who attempts to hide from life in a rundown suburban tract home only to discover he cannot escape the forces of hope.Henry Poole Is Here is an odd if enjoyable dramedy about everyone's need for a miracle now and then--though one person's miracle can easily be another's nightmare. Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) is a misanthropic loner who attempts to buy a specific house at any price and is rebuffed. Instead, he buys another house in some need of repair but brushes off any discussion of improvement, mysteriously claiming he's not going to be living in it very long. Uncertain what that means, Henry's neighbors learn to give him some distance, until Esperanza (Adriana Barraza) decides she can see the face of Jesus Christ in a water stain on Henry's house. In sho! rt order, Esperanza has alerted her church and friends, and a disgruntled Henry's backyard is full of true believers. Directed by Mark Pellington (Arlington Road), Henry Poole Is Here occasionally finds itself awash in treacle and sincerity, especially where Henry's developing relationship with a single mom (Radha Mitchell) and her near-mute child are concerned. But the film never alienates viewers disinclined to believe in iconic apparitions, adding a neat twist toward the end that makes Henry's rage against Esperanza's faith work for and not against him. Making the whole enterprise worthwhile is Wilson's fine performance as a man who has given up on everything (for reasons that eventually become clear in the story) but, in fact, wants nothing more than to embrace life. --Tom Keogh
